“A Matter of Perspective: Two Generations, Two Mediums” Opens Memorial Day Weekend in Spooner
SPOONER, WI — This Memorial Day weekend, art lovers are invited to experience A Matter of Perspective:
Two Generations, Two Mediums, a unique exhibition featuring the work of local artist Roger Nielsen and
photographer Heidi Nielsen-Meade.
The exhibition will open with a special reception on Saturday, May 23 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Studio
210, located just above Arts In Hand Gallery in Spooner, Wisconsin. Guests are encouraged to attend this
opening night event to meet the artists, explore the collection, and enjoy an evening celebrating creativity,
connection, and the natural world.
Roger Nielsen, a seasoned painter, is known for his expressive landscapes inspired by the Northwoods. His
work reflects decades of experience and a deep emotional connection to the wilderness, particularly the
Boundary Waters. Through layered color and texture, his paintings capture not just the scenery, but the
feeling of being immersed in nature.
Heidi Nielsen-Meade is a photographer, artist, and nature advocate whose work is rooted in connection,
presence, and reverence for the natural world. Rather than seeking out photographs, Heidi approaches nature
with curiosity and openness, asking, “What am I going to see today?” Her slow, intuitive process allows her to
capture not just landscapes and wildlife, but the emotion and atmosphere of a moment in time.
Together, their pieces create a powerful visual dialogue—two generations interpreting similar environments
through different mediums. The exhibition highlights how perspective is shaped not only by experience, but
by the tools an artist uses. Painting allows memory and emotion to guide the image, while photography
captures a precise moment in time. The result is a layered and thought-provoking exploration of how we
see and connect with the world around us.
Both artists share a deep love for the Boundary Waters, a place that continues to inspire their work and
values. In honor of this connection, they will donate 10% of all opening night proceeds to Friends of the
Boundary Waters Wilderness, supporting efforts to preserve and protect this treasured wilderness.
This exhibition offers a meaningful opportunity to experience art through multiple lenses while supporting
conservation of a beloved natural resource.
